Global sales house Kew Media Distribution, a division of Kew Media Group, has teamed with London-based indie Cardinal Releasing to launch a Chuck Berry biopic at the 2018 MIPCOM market in Cannes.

Chuck Berry will serve as a 100-minute feature-length documentary and provides an exclusive and in-depth look at the influential musician who refined rhythm and blues into the subsequent sound of rock music. The film is said to reveal the “truth about the life and loves, highs and lows” of Berry.

Featured in the film, previously titled Chuck! The Documentary, are interviews with such rock icons as Keith Richards, Steven Van Zandt and Alice Cooper.

The feature doc is made in collaboration with the musician’s widow, Thelmetta Berry, and the estate of Chuck Berry.

Jon Brewer serves as director and producer on Chuck Berry, which is an Emperor Media and Chuck The Documentary production.

Berry hit the Top 10 in 1955 with “Maybellene” and went on to influence generations of musicians. Among his most notable hits were “Roll Over Beethoven” (1956), “Rock and Roll Music” (1957) and “Johnny B. Goode” (1958).

Berry passed away at age 90 on March 18, 2017, in his St. Charles County, Missouri home as a result of cardiac arrest.

His last albumĀ Chuck, released that year, was his first studio album in 38 years and incorporated three generations of the Berry family in its recording.

“Working together with Cardinal Releasing continues to deliver an absolute wealth of high quality, immersive music documentaries and biopics which hold strong appeal for viewers worldwide,” said Jonathan Ford, EVP of sales at Kew Media Distribution, in a statement. “We’re very pleased to partner once again with Jon Brewer and his team in launching the landmark documentary special Chuck Berry to the global market, which presents a captivating inside look at the remarkable life of one of music’s greatest icons.”

Kew Media Distribution’s ongoing collaboration with Cardinal Releasing sees the company managing international sales on a diverse portfolio of Cardinal’s Emperor Media titles, which are produced and directed by music and media industry veteran Brewer.
