Discovery Channel has ordered a new unscripted series starring Chad Hiltz from Great British Bake Off creator Love Productions, realscreen has learned exclusively.

Each episode of Bad Chad Customs will chronicle the master builder and his Green Goblin Customs team – shop manager and fiancé Jolene, son Colton, lifelong friend and builder Aaron, and mechanic Alex – as they turn scrap metal from junkyards into outrageous and award-winning, functioning vehicles on a workingman’s budget.

One-of-a kind builds include “The Bat out of Hell,” which has kitchen cabinet door knobs and a dorsal fin, and “The Green Goblin,” which has its engine in the back, trunk in the middle, and no doors.

The series will detail the evolving relationship between Hiltz, also known as “Bad Chad,” and his son Colton, who spent limited time with his father growing up. Colton, however, now works with his father full-time as an apprentice, eager to learn the family business.

Bad Chad Customs premieres New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Discovery.

Love Productions’ Richard McKerrow, Kevin Bartel and Jake Laufer serve as executive producers, with Jeff Garcia and Tim Beers listed as co-EPs. Craig Coffman and Kyle Wheeler take executive producer credits for Discovery, and Brian Peterson is producer.
