Global streaming giant Netflix’s upcoming natural history series Our Planet is set for April of 2019 and will be narrated by world famous naturalist Sir David Attenborough.

The eight-part series is a collaboration with Bristol-based Silverback Films (Planet Earth, Blue Planet) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), a global conservation organization. Our Planet will showcase the globe’s most precious species and diverse habitats; from the remote Arctic wilderness to the vast African landscapes, all captured in 4K.

First announced in 2015, the project, four years in the making, took more than 600 members of the series crew to 50 countries, across all continents, to capture 3,500-plus filming days.

A companion book to Our Planet will be published in April by Transworld.

“We’re the first generation to know the full impact of what we’re doing to our planet, and the last that has the chance to do anything about it,” said Colin Butfield, executive director of WWF-UK and executive producer of Our Planet, in a statement. “We’re at a unique moment in our history where we have the chance to put things right and start on the path towards a better future. Our Planet will showcase the wonders of our world at the critical time when we need global action to protect it.”

Our Planet heads to Netflix on April 5, 2019.
