LA-based indie format shop Small World IFT is partnering with Whoopi Goldberg’s One Hoe Productions and 44 Blue Productions to develop a U.S. version of the Romanian game show Win Your Country!

The studio-based game show sees contestants competing by answering knowledge-based questions about their home countries.

Win Your Country! was originally created in Romania by Zucchero Media for TVR2, where it is now in its fourth season. A Canadian version is also in development, and the format has been optioned in France.

The U.S. version is currently in development with a broadcaster not yet attached. Executive producers are Whoopi Goldberg and Tom Leonardis for One Hoe, with Stephanie Noonan Drachkovitch and Dan Snook as EPs for 44 Blue. Producer Noah Bonnett will serve as showrunner.

“We love the civic nature of this show and the positive focus on unity and identity,” said Goldberg, in a statement. “It gives the players and the audience a chance to take pride in the place they call home and have a great time doing it, along with a little healthy competition. We think U.S. audiences will love Win Your Country!, and Small World, 44 Blue and Noah Bonnett are the perfect partners to bring it to life here.”

“We have produced two critically acclaimed series with Whoopi and Tom and are always looking for exciting new content to create together,” added Drachkovitch, president and co-founder of 44 Blue. “When we saw Small World’s Win Your Country!, we knew it would be a perfect fit for Whoopi’s brand of topical humor and family fun. The format couldn’t be more relevant, and we look forward to bringing it to the U.S.”
