Viacom-owned Channel 5 has commissioned UK indie Avalon to produce a new factual entertainment series exploring Britain’s most iconic hotels.

5* Hotels: Upstairs and Down (4 x 60 mins) features BAFTA nominated actor Nigel Havers and former Coronation Street actress Sally Lindsay as they explore four of the UK’s most luxurious hotels from two different perspectives – upstairs and downstairs.

One of the hosts will check into the hotel as a VIP guest to soak up all the five-star luxury, while the other steps into the world of the employees to help deliver the hotels’ exceedingly high standards. From laundry and cleaning dining rooms to porters and maintenance, the series will show what it takes to become a luxury hotel in Britain.

The series was ordered by Emma Westcott, Channel 5′s commissioning editor, factual. Tim Quicke and Jamie Isaacs, chief executive of Avalon factual, serve as executive producers.

“The series is going to take viewers behind the closed doors of the poshest hotels in Britain and allow them a sneak peek into the worlds of the super-rich,” said Five’s Westcott, in a statement.
