Wildlife educator and YouTube star Nathaniel “Coyote” Peterson’s LA-based prodco Wilderness Productions has hired David Casey as executive producer of television and digital media.

In the new role, Casey (pictured) will oversee the company’s production and content development initiatives as well as serve as showrunner for Peterson’s upcoming, untitled Animal Planet project, set to bow in 2019. The role includes overseeing digital growth of brands like the Brave Wilderness channel and the recent aquatic-focused Blue Wilderness channel on YouTube.

He will also spearhead Wilderness Productions’ global philanthropic initiatives and engagement alongside CEO Mark Vins.

Previously, Casey served as vice president of production at documentary film funder and distributor ITVS, where he oversaw the production pipeline for all broadcast and digital projects. He has worked with Animal Planet in the past, as executive producer and showrunner for the Discovery-owned network’s six-part Ocean Warriors and Ice Cold Gold. Meanwhile, in 2016, he produced the Greenland segment in An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power.

“We are so excited to have someone with David’s experience and skill set joining our team as we forge into the world of television,” said Vins in a statement. “His passion for adventure and conservation mirrors our core values and we knew instantly that he would be a perfect fit at Wilderness Productions.”

“Through the company’s wildly successful YouTube Channel, Coyote Peterson and Wilderness Productions have tapped straight into the heart of an entire generation of new wildlife enthusiasts,” added Casey. “With the dire stakes around at-risk wildlife worldwide, the impact of our future work together is more valuable than ever. I’m honored to be able to make content I can watch with my son, and share my love for conservation and wildlife with him and his generation.”
