India’s Essel Group, parent company to Zee Entertainment Enterprises and its subsidiary, U.S.-based health and wellness network Z Living, is launching a full service production company, Z Productions, also to be headquartered in the U.S.
Rajeev Kheror, president of Zee Entertainment Enterprises and Z Living, will take the same role at the prodco, Essel’s first mainstream production company to be based in the United States. Z Living’s EVP and head of programming Tim Krubsack, meanwhile, will take the same role at Z Productions.
Z Living is transitioning from a linear cable network to a digital destination for content. Z Productions will operate as a separate entity, designed to develop and produce content for all platforms. The production company is already in production on two original series in the transformation and health space, and has numerous projects in development in such genres as documentary, competition, food, paranormal, nature, and relationships, as well as branded digital and event series.
Kheror previously served as president of strategy and planning of international business at Zee Entertainment Enterprises. He joined Z Living as president in December 2017 and also retains oversight of international cable network Zee Mundo.
Prior to joining Z Living, Krubsack served as senior vice president, alternative programming for NBCUniversal cable net Syfy, developing and shepherding such series as Face Off, Paranormal Witness, Heroes of Cosplay, Total Blackout, Hollywood Treasure and Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge, among others.
“With the industry changing at such a rapid pace, we are focused on exciting ways to diversify our reach, and also to position the pioneering spirit of the Essel Group,” said Kheror in a statement. “With Z Productions, we are hitting the ground running to mobilize the marketplace with dynamic projects across a wide spectrum of formats and genres.”
“As a long-time programmer, launching Z Productions offers the perfect opportunity to stretch our collective creative muscles with innovative content for television and digital platforms,” added Krubsack. “We look forward to tapping into the great and varied resources of Essel to deliver fresh and diverse content to a variety of buyers.”
