Group Nine’s comedy-focused studio Jash and mobile news publisher NowThis have teamed up to produce an unscripted pilot, The Untitled Maz Jobrani Project (working title), for Turner-owned truTV.

The half-hour variety program stars comedian Maz Jobrani (pictured) who uses stand up, scripted sketches, interviews and hidden camera to capture the lengths that people will go to “fit in.”

The concept stems from Jobrani’s personal experience as someone born in Iran but grew up in the U.S. Additionally, the series will explore the multiple ways people can feel stuck between two worlds.

The series is co-created by Jobrani and Jon Beckerman. The pilot is being produced by Jobrani. Beckerman, Daniel Kellison, Max Broude, Miriam Mintz and Ray Moheet serve as executive producers.

Group Nine acquired the award-winning production studio Jash in 2017.
