A+E Networks has appointed Christian Murphy to the newly-created position of head of enthusiast brands.

In his new role, Murphy (pictured) will oversee programming and strategy focused on creating branded destination dayparts and building engagement in the enthusiast genres, including new categories like military and veteran themes, pets and pet care, collectables and travel genres.

He will continue to oversee and expand the company’s three existing branded programming blocks; “Home.Made.”, “Drive” and “Outdoors.”

Previously, Murphy was SVP of daytime and programming partnerships at A+E Networks, and prior to that, had led programming and marketing for A+E’s international group.

Additionally, Murphy is the creator, producer and host of All You Need To Know, a long- and short-form franchise that showcases innovation in enthusiast industries and features interviews with trail blazers, designers and innovators.

He will report to A+E Networks’ president of programming Rob Sharenow and SVP of programming partnerships Jim Hoffman.

“Christian is breaking new ground when it comes to content production through innovative partnerships with producers, brands, businesses and investors. His team is creating new models that are leading to significant original content and generating non-traditional revenue streams,” said Sharenow and Hoffman in a joint statement. “As our industry evolves, there has never been a more important time to take a new approach to content production. We look forward to seeing what Christian has planned for the Enthusiast Brands as the group continues to grow in 2019.”
