Speculation has reignited surrounding the possible sale of Amsterdam-headquartered global producer-distributor Endemol Shine Group (ESG), with new reports suggesting Paris-headquartered Banijay Group remains the lead potential buyer.

Banijay was rumored to be considering the purchase last October, after UK-basedITV announced it was ruling out a bid. At the time, Hollywood entertainment powerhouse Endeavor was also said to be in the running to scoop up ESG.

According to reports, the sale was suspended in November, but discussions have since resumed this month.

Banijay Group CEO Marco Bassetti (pictured) has deep ties with Endemol, having served as COO, group president, interim CEO, as well as founding executive of Endemol Italy prior to coming to Banijay in 2013. Bassetti`s brother, Paolo Bassetti served as Endemol Shine Italy`s CEO and chairman and served as a member of ESG`s international board. Paolo Bassetti was recently appointed to the CEO position for Banijay’s Italian division. Finally, Banijay Group founder and chairman Stéphane Courbit also served as president of Endemol France, following Endemol’s acquisition of his Arthur Stéphane Productions in the late 1990s.

Realscreen has confirmed that talks of a sale have resumed between Banijay and ESG.
