Toronto-based production outfit Shopify Studios, the production arm of global commerce platform Shopify, has launched two series focused on women entrepreneurs ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8.

In Unpacking Business with Shay Mitchell (pictured), the one-off short features Pretty Little Liars actor and entrepreneur Shay Mitchell as she meets with the women leading three different local ventures in Los Angeles. Mitchell interviews each owner at her place of work where the actor learns about their profession, their journey to build their brands and the challenges they’ve encountered. The three businesses featured in the series include vintage clothing and accessories store The Way We Wore, fashion line Melody Ehsani and ecologically-responsible florist Wildflora.

Jason Badal and Jason Ford serve as executive producers, with Tammi Downey serving as senior supervising producer on the program.

“Women, and especially ethnic women, are so under-represented in the entrepreneurial space that it’s been somewhat intimidating; thankfully, I have a team and partners that are very supportive. That being said, I’m hoping that I, along with an army of other amazing females, can help redefine what entrepreneurship looks like and who can participate – I want young girls and women to be inspired and see themselves as entrepreneurs,” said Mitchell in a statement. “There’s really no road map for entrepreneurship – so having the opportunity to meet with other women who are business owners in LA, blazing their own trails and forging their own paths was a really meaningful experience.”

Elsewhere the 5 x 15-2o-minute Beauty Mark takes viewers around the world to examine the growth of the beauty industry. In each episode, hosts Jess Sanchez and Rachel Hale journey to meet a female entrepreneur who is carving out her own space in the multi-billion dollar beauty industry. While on their travels, Sanchez and Hale learn about global beauty rituals and try out innovative products as they meet the women who are bringing their own definition of beauty to the industry.

In the series premiere of Beauty Mark, Sanchez and Hale travel to Jordan to meet Amina Mango, owner of the country’s first organic skincare line, Amina’s Natural Skincare.

Beauty Mark was directed by award-winning filmmaker Chelsea McMullan, with Badal, Ford and Downey serving as executive producers.

Unpacking Business with Shay Mitchell and the premiere episode of Beauty Mark are now available on Shopify’s YouTube channel.
