Beijing-based non-governmental think tank the China Institute for Innovation & Development Strategy (CIIDS) is seeking a UK specialist production company to partner with on a new documentary project about China.

Huang Wei, the senior producer of the doc project, tentatively titled Understanding China, is in London this week for the UK producers trade association Pact’s UK China Creative Exchange (pictured). She made the announcement during the Exchange, which is centered on the themes of collaboration between China and the UK.

Understanding China (6 x 50 minutes) will focus on China’s economic growth, development and relationship with the world in the context of economic globalization in the past 400 years, as well as the current situation of China’s economy and social development, and the country’s future. CIIDS hopes to partner with a prodco to deliver the series in the next year.

“The UK is globally renowned for producing high quality factual programming for a global audience,” said Wei in a statement. “We are looking for a UK production partner with rich experience in political, economics, cultural documentary development and production, and with the ability to ensure the film to be produced on schedule for international broadcast partners.”
