John De Mol’s Talpa Network has appointed former RTL Netherlands executive Marco Louwerens as director of television, effective immediately.

In the role, Louwerens will be tasked with programming of channels SBS6, Net5, Veronica and SBS9. Additionally, he will be involved in the integration of content across all channels of the media company as he works closely with strategic advisor Erland Galjaard.

Louwerens takes over from Karin de Groot, who departed in October and now serves as managing director at ITV Studios Netherlands.

The Dutch television executive has worked at RTL Netherlands for more than 11 years, having joined the network in 2007. In 2011, Louwerens was promoted to the post of managing director of RTL 7 and RTL Z. He began his career as a director and reporter at multiple production companies and broadcasting organizations, including AT5, TROS and VARA.

“Marco has proven in his career that he understands very well what different viewer groups want to see and how to build stations for these groups,” said de Mol in a statement. “I am glad that we can add our experience to our sender teams and use them for the Talpa Network plans”.
