Cologne-based shop Brainpool has bolstered its non-fiction department with the appointment of Fabian Tobias as managing director of show and factual.

The hiring marks a restructuring of the Banijay Group-owned production outfit’s unscripted division, which will consist of three pillars in the future. They include the new show and factual department headed by Tobais; comedy and light entertainment and Lucky Pics (a joint venture with Luke Mockridge) under the leadership of Godehard Wolpers; and Raab TV with producer Stefan Raab at the helm.

Tobias is expected to join Brainpool’s management team in July.

He most recently served as director of show and factual at Endemol Shine Germany, responsible for launching a number of successful formats for German broadcasters and platforms including RTL, VOX, Sky (MasterChef) and Netflix (Comedians of the World).

Tobias’ past production credits include successful formats for a variety of production firms and networks, including ARD, RTL, NDR and ZDF, as well as Sat.1′s Hell’s Kitchen.

“Fabian Tobias is an outstanding and versatile producer and a real asset for our company,” said Marcus Wolter, Brainpool MD and CEO of Banijay Group Germany, in a statement. “He brings a special strategic sense for formats, topics and talents, and I’m delighted that he’s going to be contributing all this to Brainpool in future, thus extending our substantive portfolio.”

“In the German television landscape, Brainpool is a one-of-a-kind entertainment firm. It represents not only the most successful partnerships with the best artists, but also entertainment formats at the highest level of quality,” added Tobias. “My motivation is to extend the already-powerful portfolio by adding new, outstanding fun stuff – for the German market and beyond.”
