British multichannel operator UKTV has pre-invested in an eight-part paranormal clip-show format from Brighton-based indie Back2Back Productions.
Titled Unexplained: Caught on Camera (pictured), the series will utilize user-generated content to explore poltergeist activity caught on mobile phones, ghostly apparitions appearing on CCTV systems and otherworldly creatures captured on car dash-cams.
A team of paranormal experts will pour over the footage and listen to first-hand accounts of those involved as they attempt to rationalize the unexplainable.
Unexplained: Caught on Camera is represented globally by Toronto-based distributor Boat Rocker Media.
Elsewhere, UKTV has recommissioned a sophomore season, 12-episode run of paranormal series Help! My House is Haunted. Michael Yudin serves as exec producer and Zak Bagans is creator.
Back2Back founder and MD David Notman-Watt will executive produce both series. Help! My House is Haunted, an original format created by Zak Bagans, will also be executive produced by Michael Yudin of MY Entertainment.
The pre-investment deal for Unexplained: Caught on Camera was negotiated by Daniel Thomas, UKTV’s acquisition manager, while Help! My House is Haunted was brokered by Emma Sparks, UKTV head of acquisitions.
“Everyone at Back2Back is hugely excited to be teaming up again with UKTV on two series that will challenge our perceptions and understanding of the paranormal world,” said Notman-Watt in a statement. “The success of the first series of Help! My House is Haunted proves that audiences everywhere love to be terrified and intrigued. The paranormal may be otherworldly but its appeal is very real.”
