Discovery-owned true crime and mystery network Investigation Discovery is to provide a detailed examination of the curious death of Rebecca Zahau as part of the latest installment of the channel’s ‘Murder Mystery’ franchise.

Rebecca Zahau: An ID Murder Mystery will provide intimate insight into the mysterious death of Zahau who was found dead in 2011 at the mansion of her billionaire boyfriend, Medicis Pharmaceutical CEO Jonah Shacknai. Two days earlier, Shacknai’s six-year-old son, Max, died in an accident while under Zahau’s care.

Police suspected guilt over Max’s death drove Zahau to take her own life. Her death was initially ruled a suicide, though the case led to a great deal of public speculation as she was found hanging naked, bound and gagged.

Produced by American Media, Inc. and Jupiter Entertainment, the two-hour special event is told through exclusive interviews with family members, investigators and law enforcement officers and takes viewers inside the relationships of the deceased, their loved ones and the continuing search for answers.

“Rebecca, Jonah and Max had seemingly picture-perfect lives in a seaside estate in sunny California – but, that American dream quickly became a living nightmare,” said Henry S. Schleiff, group president of ID, Travel Channel, American Heroes Channel and Destination America, in a statement. “There are so many unanswered questions surrounding this death that, as America’s leading investigation network, we feel compelled to present a comprehensive look at whether justice has been served in this still mystifying case.”

Rebecca Zahau: An ID Murder Mystery premieres May 27 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ID.

Executive producers on the series include Allison Wallach, Tim McConville, David Pecker and Dylan Howard.
