DocuBay acquires Kwanza, Journeyman titles

The documentary streaming service DocuBay, launching globally later this year, has acquired award-winning titles from France’s Kwanza and UK’s Journeyman Pictures.

From Kwanza, the titles include Himalayan Gold Rush, on Nepalese villagers searching through the Himalayas for a valuable fungus; Deeper, about French scuba diver Pascal Bernabe; as well as Touring Talkies, Chadar: The Ice Trail, Hitler’s Last Secrets, Travelling with the Jinju, and Jack London: An American Adventure.

The titles from Journeyman Pictures include PlayMe Burlesque, about the resurgence of burlesque in New York City; Moonwalk One, about the Apollo 11 moon landing, and Sealers: One Last Hunt, an award-nominated feature following a crew of seal hunters.

Other acquisitions include Angkor Awakens, The Billion Dollar Bust, I Love My Muslim, Every Other Couple, Unbounded and Guardians of the Strait.

All will be available with English subtitles.

TVF sends unscripted programs to Spain

London-based TVF International has sold a raft of programming to broadcasters across Spain.

Public broadcaster RTVE picked up the ABC commissioned China Love (pictured), on China’s multi-million dollar pre-wedding photography industry; ARTE’s Breasts: Uncovered; and Pernel’s investigative health special Fresh Fruit Fakers.

Catalan public broadcaster TV3 picked up a package of 38 hours, including TVF’s aerial series The World from Above and eco-adventure series Across the World with Te Radar.

The World from Above was also licensed by Canal Viajar alongside Sky’s Hidden Italy and luxury travel series Glamping Adventures.

TV3 licensed BBC-commissioned Accidental Anarchist, which tells the story of a UK diplomat’s transformation to become an anarchist, and Channel NewsAsia’s undercover investigation doc In the Name of Honour: Pakistan’s Honour Killings (1 x 48).

Among other sales, Basque pubcaster ETB picked up Opium Wars: Myanmar’s Drug Vigilantes, The Addiction Machine and What’s Really In Our Food? Special; and AMC Networks snapped up Dog’s Best Friend, Rio Rescue and John Torode’s Asia.
