A new docuseries about the history and evolution of hip is set for a sneak preview at the 2019 BlackStar Film Festival in Philadelphia this August.

Hip-Hop: The Songs That Shook America is comprised of six episodes, with each focusing on one groundbreaking song pivotal to the evolution of American music and culture.

Artists profiled or featured include Kanye West (pictured, left), Andre 3000 (right), Queen Latifah, Questlove, Fab 5 Freddy, Jam Master Jay, Pharrell Williams, John Legend and more.

Alex Gibney and Stacey Offman executive produce for Jigsaw Productions, alongside The Roots members Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Tarik “Black Thought” Trotter.

BlackStar, which features work by black, brown and indigenous people from around the world, runs Aug. 1 to 4 in Philadelphia and will feature the North American premiere of Tania Hernández Velasco’ feature-length doc Titixe, alongside other narrative and non-fiction films. For more information on the eighth annual BlackStar Film Festival, click here.

Hip Hop is set to have its television premiere on AMC later this year.
