Global streaming giant Netflix has partnered with Blue Planet II creator James Honeyborne on a new docuseries about the world’s oceans, to be produced by Honeyborne’s Freeborne Media Ltd.

Oceans (w/t) is the first title to come out of Netflix’s multi-year overall deal with Honeyborne and Freeborne, signed in January.

Each episode will focus on a different ocean, using oceanography, geography and earth sciences to examine and illuminate the given ocean’s unique characteristics.

Honeyborne’s major BBC credits include Big Blue Live, Wild New Zealand, Africa and Blue Planet II (pictured), which he created and executive produced, among 35 films he oversaw during his time as an EP at the BBC’s Natural History Unit.

Production on Oceans begins later this year.
