Discovery is set to seek out the age-old question: have extra-terrestrials made contact with Earth?

The new series Contact will see six highly trained investigators following up on leads that have yet to turn up anything conclusive for the countless scientists, government officials, explorers, religious leaders and populations around the world looking for answers.

Led by former CIA targeting officer Myke Cole and conflict analyst Michael Livingston, and featuring renowned astrophysicist and international space journalist Sarah Cruddas, former USMC special ops intel officer Nick Karnaze, award-winning investigative journalist Paul Beban and former Green Beret intelligence sergeant Kawa Mawlayee, the series looks to tackle the question in earnest, leaving the tin foil hats at home in favor of hard research and analysis.

The series is produced for Discovery Channel by Karga Seven Pictures, a Red Arrow Studios company. Jason Wolf, Sarah Wetherbee, Kelly McPherson, and Emre Sahin serve as executive producers for Karga Seven, and Johnny Beechler is co-executive producer and showrunner. Bill Howard is executive producer, and Paola Espinosa is coordinating producer for Discovery.

Contact premieres Aug. 7 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Discovery Channel.
