In advance of the limited theatrical release of the acclaimed documentary For Sama, the latest episode of Chuck Braverman’s Westdoc Online series features a revealing interview with the filmmakers and cast behind the film.

Braverman talks to film directors Waad al-Kateab and Edward Watts as well as al-Kateab’s husband who also appears in the film, Hamza.

Filmed over the span of five years, the film depicts the harrowing reality of living and raising a child in the midst of the chaotic Syrian revolution. Produced by Channel 4 News/ITN Productions for Channel 4 and WGBH/Frontline, the film opens in limited theatrical release in the U.S. on July 26, and will then move to the UK for a limited run in September. It will have its television broadcast premiere on PBS’ ‘Frontline’ in November.
