British pubcaster Channel 4 has greenlit a 60-minute documentary showcasing one of England’s biggest pet food factories.

From London production house Whitworth Media, Britain’s Giant Pet Food Factory will take viewers inside Mars Petcare UK’s Melton Mowbray-based facility.

Narrated by British comedian Robert Webb, the one-off documentary captures the Mars team working to deliver one million pet food pouches in a day — from measuring chunks by the millimeter to tasting the dishes.

Directed by Paula Wittig and James Dawson, the documentary aims to offer insight into the world of pet food research and manufacturing.

Whitworth Media creative director Hugh Whitworth and Nina Davies serve as executive producers, with Ed Avern and Sophie Brackenbury listed as producers. The one-off special is commissioned for Channel 4 by Becky Cadman, commissioning editor of factual entertainment.

UK-based sales agent Cineflix holds distribution rights.

Britain’s Giant Pet Food Factory premieres Aug. 1 at 9 p.m. on Channel 4.

“This has been an amazing journey into a rarely glimpsed world of poo-centric science, pet-mad employees and what really goes into making mass- produced pet food,” Whitworth said in a release.
