Born This Way creator Bunim/Murray Productions has tapped former A. Smith & Co. Productions executive Rupert Dobson as SVP of development.

Based in Los Angeles, the BAFTA-nominated development executive and showrunner will be tasked with developing entertainment formats for broadcast networks and premium streaming platforms. He reports directly into Julie Pizzi, Bunim/Murray’s president of entertainment and development.

Most recently, Dobson served as head of development at A. Smith & Co. where his credits include such original formats as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s The Titan Games for NBC and Mental Samurai with Rob Lowe for Fox, as well as myriad programs for Netflix TLC, HGTV, Travel Channel, Discovery and BET.

Prior to A. Smith & Co., Dobson was VP of programming and development at Base Productions, with oversight of developing and producing series including Fact or Faked, Haunted Highway, Legend Quest, Deep South Paranormal, Stuntbusters and Human Wrecking Balls.

Dobson has also previously worked as a supervising producer for London-headquartered prodco Twofour where he developed and produced series for major UK networks including Channel 4, Sky, Channel 5 and ITV.

“We are very fortunate that Rupert is joining our development team. He is a strong creative executive with an impressive track record developing formats that have succeeded on both network and premium streaming platforms,” said Gil Goldschein, CEO Bunim/Murray Productions, in a statement. “He will play an integral role as we continue to ramp up our development capabilities.”
