Viacom-owned youth cable net MTV International is launching a celebrity version of its hit dating series Ex on the Beach.
In Celebrity Ex on the Beach, single celebrities will go on a luxury holiday where they’ll be looking for love, but one by one, their exes will begin to appear, adding drama and baggage to the mix.
Ex on the Beach has been MTV’s most widely traveled and adapted show since its launch in 2014, with 14 local versions created internationally.
The 15 x 60-minute version of the series will be produced by Whizz Kid Entertainment and begins filming in September. It was commissioned by Craig Orr, VP of commissioning and development at MTV International, and Kerry Taylor, EVP of youth and music for Viacom International Media Networks. Lisa Chapman, Rachael Parker and Jess Thomas will executive produce for Whizz Kid.
“With over 580 episodes of Ex on the Beach commissioned worldwide to date, it’s nothing short of a juggernaut – and the new celebrity version adds an exciting twist to this hugely popular format,” said Orr in a statement. “We have a great line-up of famous faces all desperately looking for love and it promises to be a captivating ride for MTV’s viewers.”
“After nine successful series it’s the perfect time to launch a celebrity version of Ex on the Beach,” added Whizz Kid chief executive Malcolm Gerrie. “We have some sensational celebrities lined up in a super glamorous location and we are delighted to be working with MTV International again.”
Celebrity Ex on the Beach will air next year across MTV’s network of international channels and digital platforms in 180 countries.
