The prodco was launched to capitalize on growing demand for unscripted content in the international marketplace, as well as escalating competition between traditional networks and SVODs. BirdDog is currently in development on an initial slate of docuseries and factual specials. Bunting (pictured, left) will serve as chairman and CEO while Ellis (right) holds the role of president and COO.
Bunting has more than two decades of experience creating factual series and specials at Discovery, with titles such as Deadliest Catch, MythBusters and The Crocodile Hunter. Ellis, meanwhile, is the former president of Ellis Entertainment, which produced more than 600 titles, largely comprised of natural history content. The content library is owned by Ellis’ Stellis Media.
Ellis and Bunting also helped launch Digital Circus Media in 2018, a prodco focused on transmedia projects in video games and other interactive narrative media. Ellis has long been invested in the production of digital content. He cofounded RocketFuel Media in 2012, a service company formed to help film and TV producers create online extensions of their brands.
