BBC Studios, the commercial production arm of UK pubcaster the BBC, has secured its first YouTube Originals commission.

Produced by the BBC Studios Science Unit, The Edge of Science will follow presenters Rick Edwards (of Science(ish)┬ápodcasting fame) and YouTube stuntman Colin Furze as they test a range of theories, stunts and experiments in an effort to explore whether it’s actually possible to levitate while challenging the audience’s understanding of the world.

The series will follow Edwards and a team of expert science and education creators as they meet the scientists behind cutting-edge research into acoustic and quantum levitation.

The Edge of Science is expected to premiere on the BBC Earth YouTube channel in December 2019.

“We are delighted to be partnering with BBC Studios on this pioneering special starring Colin Furze and Rick Edwards, exploring the science behind levitation and whether science can make the impossible possible,” said Luke Hyams, head of YouTube Originals, in a statement. “A future of flying trains, rain falling upwards, and walking on water is closer than we think.”
