Sports broadcaster Whistle revealed its plans on Thursday (Oct. 17) to launch the linear OTT channel WhistleTV, expected to debut in the fourth quarter of this year.
The streamer will offer ad-supported content, including unscripted and scripted programming, episodic content, niche sports league programming, movies and documentaries.
Griffin Gmelich has been hired to spearhead WhistleTV as executive vice president of OTT and content. He will be responsible for managing the procurement of production and distribution partnerships.
Prior to Whistle, formerly Whistle Sports, Gmelich held positions at Hulu, Entertainment One and Warner Bros.
“Whistle’s deep portfolio of existing and new franchises, as well as talent-infused content, will meet audiences everywhere they consume content whether it be on social and soon to be in linear too,” Gmelich said in a statement.
Distributors for the streamer will be announced at a later date, the company stated in a release.
