The Realscreen Summit’s standing room only, live pitch competition, the Summit Showdown is now taking entries for the 2020 edition.

The upcoming Showdown, taking place on Monday, Jan. 27, once again will have two US$20,000 development deals as top prizes, with a new participating network on board. This time around, HGTV and A&E will each provide one $20,000 development deal to a winning project for their network, with one winner for each network being crowned at the live competition.

The host for the competition will be broadcast journalist and television personality Michaela Pereira (pictured). Making her TV debut in 1993 in Victoria, British Columbia’s CHEK-TV as host of afternoon magazine program CHEK Around, she then spent nine years as part of the Emmy Award-winning KTLA Morning News anchor team in Los Angeles. From there she headed east to New York where she was the news anchor for CNN’s morning show New Day, and later returned to Los Angeles where she had her own daily national two-hour show on CNN’s sister station HLN.

At the Summit Showdown, producers and content creators vie for the opportunity to pitch a new, not yet commissioned unscripted or non-fiction one-off program or series.

The 2020 Summit Showdown is presented in partnership with West One Music Group, who will provide the Grand Prize winners of the Summit Showdown an exclusive custom theme song and blanket library package for their show. In addition to creating the title track for the pilot, West One will provide music direction and full access to their award-winning library of more than 55,000 tracks.

In addition to the entry form, entrants must submit a signed submission release form, a three-minute video sizzle reel or pitch and a one-page paper pitch. Before submitting, entrants must also read the creative brief for the network they want to be considered for.

Participants in the Summit Showdown must be registered for Realscreen Summit 2020 to enter the competition. Deadline for entries is Friday, December 13, 2019. For more information on the competition, click here.
