Unscripted television’s embrace of drag culture continues with a new series on the way from U.S. premium pay net HBO.
The network will debut the six-part unscripted series We’re Here this spring, fronted by former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O’Hara and Shangela Laquifa Wadley.
The series will see the trio recruit small-town “drag daughters” across America to participate in a one-night-only drag show.
We’re Here is created and executive produced by Stephen Warren and Johnnie Ingram. Peter LoGreco serves as director and executive producer.
Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman are executive producers for Industrial Media’s The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC). Caldwell Tidicue (Bob the Drag Queen; pictured left), David Huggard (Eureka O’Hara; right) and D.J. Pierce (Shangela; center) serve as consulting producers.
Elsewhere, HBO has set a November airdate for the previously-announced Jenifer McShane-directed documentary Ernie and Joe: Crisis Cops, which offers insight into how Texas police are responding to individuals undergoing mental health crises.
The documentary chronicles the daily encounters of Ernie Stevens and Joe Smarro, part of the San Antonio Police Department’s Mental Health Unit, and how they use an innovative policing approach to diffuse difficult situations.
Ernie and Joe: Crisis Cops premieres Nov. 19 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
