Discovery-owned Travel Channel is set to launch a new paranormal investigation series with Buzzfeed author and illustrator Adam Ellis, who in a Twitter thread started in 2017 has been chronicling eerie visitations in his New York City apartment by the ghost of a boy known as “Dear David.”

The thread and #DearDavid tag became a viral sensation, followed by millions, and the premise was even optioned for a narrative feature by New Line Cinema last year. Now, Ellis (pictured center) is taking off on a quest to help others with their own paranormal visitors, along with his friends: researcher/documentarian Jen Lewis (right) and ghost hunter and lead investigator Paul Bradford (left).

Trending Fear (6 x 30 minutes) sees the three traveling around the U.S., from Oregon to Massachusetts, helping people gain some control in their lives as they unpack and explain mysterious encounters with the paranormal.

The series will also make use of social media to connect with viewers for help crowdsourcing stories and solving mysteries.

Trending Fear is produced by Texas Crew Productions for Travel Channel. For Texas Crew Productions, the executive producers are David Karabinas, Rick Cikowski, Bill Hochhauser and Brad Bernstein. For Travel Channel, the executive producer is Christine Shuler, Julie Meisner Eagle is vice president of production and development, Matthew Butler is general manager and Henry Schleiff is group president of Investigation Discovery, Travel Channel, American Heroes Channel and Destination America.

“Adam’s extraordinary personal experience and harrowing tale that went viral in ‘Dear David’ makes him uniquely positioned to help those grappling with paranormal fear,” said Butler in a statement. “The stories in Trending Fear give local community members the ability to discuss and engage with paranormal stories that most thought too taboo to discuss publicly. Adam, Jen and Paul will be able to take them through the investigations – in real time and with community help – unlike any other paranormal stories before.”

Trending Fear premieres Dec. 20 at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Travel Channel.
