New York’s Sundance Channel and Franco-German La Sept/ARTE have signed an agreement to develop a new French film channel. Hélène Mochiri, advisor to ARTE president Gerome Clement, confirmed that the channel’s mandate will be similar to ARTE’s, providing a showcase for independent art and classic films (fiction and non-fiction) gathered from around the globe. She says they will focus on straight acquisitions in the beginning because of budgetary constraints. The as-yet-unnamed channel will likely launch later this year.
