Editorial and visual researcher Barbara Ann Sears died of pancreatic cancer on August 25. A founding member of the Visual Researchers' Society of Canada, Sears' work was not only limited to print, as she also directed documentaries, and served as a producer, writer and narrator for various projects. Sears worked for many years with author Pierre Berton, as well as National Film Board of Canada director Donald Brittain. An endowment to further editorial and visual research has been set up in Barbara's name, to be administered by the Visual Researcher's Society of Canada (VRSC/ARAC).
