The 3D joint venture between Discovery Communications, Sony Corporation and IMAX has named its first chief financial officer and director of sales and acquisitions.
Discovery’s Julia Rao has been appointed as CFO. She’d previously served as chief financial officer for several Discovery U.S. networks, including Animal Planet, Planet Green, Discovery Health and FitTV, and played important roles in the strategic growth of each net as well as financial oversight for their brand-defining series. She also held the post of senior director for the network portfolio including Discovery Channel, Science Channel, Military Channel and Investigation Discovery.
Mark Ringwald, most recently with AmericanLife TV Network as vice president of programming, has come on board as director of sales and acquisitions. He will oversee scheduling and programming strategy for the new net, incorporating long-form and short-form acquisitions into the long terms programming plans. At AmericanLife, a basic-cable, family-themed network, he significantly increased the amount of original content aired.
No firm date has been announced for the launch of the 24/7 3D network yet. Content being flagged for the channel includes natural history, adventure, theatrical releases and IMAX films.
