One World Media, a UK-based charity dedicated to increasing global understanding through the media, has appointed Marion Bowman as its new director. Bowman is a UK media veteran, beginning her career as a newspaper journalist and then moving to radio. In 1982, she became one of Channel 4′s first current affairs presenters and then established her own prodco, Scarlet TV, in 1987. She established Metroland, the first-time documentary directors’ scheme, in 1992 and acted as ITV’s deputy controller of factual programs before moving to the BBC as managing editor, entertainment. She was deputy director of programs with the Independent Television Commission until Ofcom’s arrival in 2004. She has also served as a chair of Sheffield Doc/Fest.
