BBC Worldwide appoints exec VP for EMEA

BBC Worldwide, the UK public broadcaster's commercial arm, has appointed former Endemol exec Joerg Bachmaier as its regional executive VP for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

BBC Worldwide (BBCWW), the UK pubcaster’s commercial arm, has appointed Joerg Bachmaier as its regional executive VP for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Bachmaier joins from Endemol Group, where he was senior VP and general manager for the Americas for Endemol Worldwide Brands.

During his time there, his focus was on extending Endemol’s global IP across multiple platforms and territories, including investment in product development and the creation of games applications, live events, consumer products, digital activities and branded entertainment.

In his new role, Bachmaier will be responsible for BBCWW’s strategic development in EMEA, excluding the UK, and delivering new brands, products and initiatives to drive future revenue growth across the region.

He joins in November and will report to Paul Dempsey, who is MD for consumer products and the MD responsible for EMEA on BBCWW’s executive committee.

The news comes after BBCWW last week appointed Fred Medina as exec VP for Latin America.

In a statement, Bachmaier said: “My years in Los Angeles taught me to develop high-quality content cost-efficiently, follow a more consumer-oriented approach and create innovative transmedia franchises which allow experiences and creativity to travel seamlessly across all screens.”
