“Pina,” “Position Among the Stars” in running for EFA doc prize

The European Film Academy has named Wim Wenders' Pina (pictured), Leonard Retel Helmrich's Position Among the Stars and Victor Kossakovsky's ¡Vivan Las Antipodas! as the nominees for this year's EFA Documentary 2011 - Prix Arte.

The European Film Academy (EFA) has named Wim Wenders’ Pina (pictured), Leonard Retel Helmrich’s Position Among the Stars and Victor Kossakovsky’s ¡Vivan Las Antipodas! as the nominees for this year’s EFA Documentary 2011 – Prix Arte.

Pina is a feature-length dance film shot in 3D, featuring the ensemble of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch; while Position is the third in a trilogy of films looking at life in Indonesia. Antipodas, meanwhile, contrasts life in four locations that lie at opposite ends of the globe from one another.

The three non-fiction titles were picked by a committee consisting of Nik Powell, director of the NFTS and deputy chairman of the EFA Board; EFA board member Despina Mouzaki (Greece), EFA member Francine Brücher (Switzerland); Claas Danielsen from the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film; Ally Derks from IDFA; Belgian producer Jacques Laurent; and ARTE-observer Martin Pieper.

The winner will be presented at the 24th EFA Awards on December 3 in Berlin.
