The Weather Channel greenlights “Lifeguard!”

The series from LMNO Productions, set to debut in February, will join other non-scripted fare on the network, including Twist of Fate, Storm Riders, and the upcoming Coast Guard Alaska.

Following the appointments of Michael Dingley as senior vice president, content and development, and Mary Ellen Iwata as VP of original content and development, The Weather Channel is ramping up its slate of original non-fiction fare, with Lifeguard!, a 13 x 30-minute series from LMNO Productions, greenlit for a February debut.

The series will spotlight the lifeguards of Southern California who police some of the most famous coastlines in the world and, as a unit, make up to 10,000 saves.

“Content on all of The Weather Channel platforms focuses on weather and how it affects peoples’ everyday lives whether at work or play,” said Dingley. “Lifeguard! speaks directly to that mission, offering viewers an inside look at how lifeguards handle the dangerous conditions and situations they face on a daily basis, and the role weather plays in helping or hindering their efforts.”

“You never really think about it but everything a lifeguard does is somehow based on weather,” said Eric Schotz, president and CEO of LMNO Productions. “Good weather means more people. The more people, the busier it gets for heroes who patrol and saves lives every day on the world-renowned beaches of Southern California.”

The series joins The Weather Channel’s current unscripted offerings, including Twist of Fate, Storm Riders and the upcoming Coast Guard Alaska, which bows on November 9.
