Animal Planet, Hoff head for American “Border”

(UPDATED) The U.S. network has commissioned Hoff Productions to make a six-part series following a police K-9 unit in Arizona dedicated to policing the U.S. border.

U.S. net Animal Planet has commissioned Hoff Productions to make Battle for the Border (working title), a six-part series following a police K-9 unit in Arizona dedicated to policing the town of Nogales and the U.S. border.

The small town of Nogales is between a vast desert and a 20-foot tall steel fence, on the border between the U.S. and Mexico. The Nogales Police Department K-9 unit attempts to deal with a Mexican cartel, which smuggles drugs, weapons, money and humans both day and night.

Premiering on August 19 at 11 p.m. EST/PST, the series follows the officers and canines as they raid drug-stash houses, capture human traffickers and bust weapons caches.Following the special premiere episode, the series moves to its regular timeslot on August 24 at 10 p.m. EST/PST.

Characters in the docuseries include officers Mario Lopez, Amador Vasquez, John Zuniga, Christian Flores and Oscar Mesta II and their canines.

Battle for the Border is executive produced by Michael Hoff for Hoff Productions and Dawn Sinsel for Animal Planet.
