Britain’s Channel 5 has commissioned a travel/adventure series starring Ben Fogle (pictured) about people living in far-flung corners of the world.

In Where The Wild Men Are with Ben Fogle, the British TV presenter and adventurer immerses himself in the lives of people who have turned their backs on modern living and relocated to remote parts of Alaska, Texas, Australia and New Zealand.

Coproduced by Renegade Pictures and GroupM Entertainment, the 4 x 60-minutes series will begin airing in spring 2013.

“Traveling to exceptionally remote locations was a challenge, but then once he arrived, Ben faced these extreme lifestyles head-on,” said Natalie Wilkinson, series producer and director for Renegade, in a statement. “It was fascinating to see what kind of people can make living in such harsh environments work for them and their families.”

GroupM head of programming Tony Moulsdale added the show is based on the idea that “there’s a tiny part in all of us which dreams of escaping it all.”

Where The Wild Men Are with Ben Fogle was commissioned by┬áSteve Gowans, Channel 5′s head of factual entertainment, features and entertainment. The executive producers are Harry Lansdown for Renegade Pictures and Melanie Darlaston for GroupM Entertainment.

Fogle recently appeared in the BBC2 and Spun Gold TV series Swimming With Crocodiles, as well as BBC Worldwide Channels’ Year of Adventures.
