LA-based Gravitas Ventures has acquired worldwide VoD rights to Dave Grohl’s documentary Sound City (pictured), which features interviews with artists including Neil Young, Stevie Nicks and Trent Reznor.
The Foo Fighters frontman’s doc tells the story of the titular recording studio via interviews and performances by musicians who made their careers there.
After its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this Friday (January 18), Sound City will bow worldwide via cable, satellite, telco, online, hotel, and airline VoD operators on February. Simultaneously, the film will be released theatrically in North American by Variance Films.
“The production, direction, and iconic stars in this documentary are all top-notch,” said Gravitas Ventures president Michael Murphy.
“The film undoubtedly appeals to a worldwide VoD audience. Dave and his team have been incredibly supportive collaborating on this distribution strategy – it’s been aggressive and truly independent.”
