U.S. net Discovery Channel has tapped Magnum, P.I. actor Tom Selleck (pictured) to narrate its forthcoming wildlife series North America.

The seven-part series, which is premiering Stateside on May 19 at 9 p.m. EST, is Discovery’s first independently produced, landmark natural history series. It was produced by Silverback Films, which traversed the continent for more than three years, “from the sub-zero Canadian tundra to the tropical rainforests of Panama,” according to the network.

In a statement, Selleck said: “I’ve been a fan of Discovery’s nature programming for years, and I am truly honored to be narrating their next great series. I think people will be captivated by North America.”

Eileen O’Neill, group president of Discovery Channel and TLC, added: “Discovery Channel is thrilled to have iconic American actor Tom Selleck lend his voice to such an exciting landmark television event that rediscovers the extreme land we call ‘home.’”

North America was produced by Silverback with Keith Scholey serving as executive producer and Huw Cordey serving as series producer. For Discovery Channel, Christine Weber and Iain Riddick serve as exec producers, with Kristin Wilcox the associate producer.
