U.S. cable network Investigation Discovery will air Whitey Bulger: The Making of a Monster (pictured) as part of its ‘ID Films’ documentary strand.

Produced by Northern Light Productions, the film chronicles the life of the fugitive Irish crime boss and FBI informant, who was apprehended two years ago in Santa Monica. It is based on the book Whitey: The Life of America’s Most Notorious Mob Boss by Dick Lehr and Gerard O’Neil and features interviews with Lehr as well as with the mother of Bulger’s only child, his former associates, and members of the FBI and Boston police force.

“Whitey Bulger will forever be mentioned in the same breath as Al Capone, John Dillinger, and John Gotti,” said Henry Schleiff, president and general manager of Investigation Discovery, in a statement. “ID is proud to present this film, the most definitive biographical documentary on the notorious boss of Boston’s underworld.”

Susan Gray serves as executive producer for Northern Light and John Terp is executive producer for ID. Whitey Bulger: The Making of a Monster premieres on June 3 at 10 p.m. EST/PST.
