Janice Hadlow becomes acting controller at BBC4

BBC2 controller Janice Hadlow (pictured) will oversee BBC4 until the British pubcaster finds a replacement for Richard Klein, who departed this week to become ITV’s director of factual.

She will take editorial charge of the network on an interim basis, with support by channel executive Adam Barker and schedulers Don Cameron and Owen Courtney, to ensure that commissioning continues as usual.

Before Hadlow took over the controller role at BBC2 in 2008, she was the controller for BBC4. At BBC2, she is responsible for overall strategy, scheduling, editorial policy and priority, development and commissioning for all programming that airs on TV and online. During her tenure the network has ramped up its specialist factual, comedy and drama series.

Klein became controller at BBC4 when Hadlow moved to BBC2. At ITV, he will take over the responsibilities previously handled by director of factual and daytime Alison Sharman, who left the broadcaster earlier this year after seven years.
