CBS sets airdate for Guggenheim’s “Teach”

The U.S. broadcaster will air Teach, the third documentary from director Davis Guggenheim (pictured) on America's public school system, on September 6.

U.S. broadcaster CBS is to air Teach, a documentary from Oscar-winning director Davis Guggenheim (pictured), next month.

Produced by Little Room and presented by Participant Media and Pivot TV, the Inconvenient Truth filmmaker’s third documentary on the American public school system takes viewers inside four classrooms in different U.S. cities to profile a year in the life of four teachers during the 2012-13 school year.

The two-hour broadcast will kick off Participant Media’s 18-month social action campaign in partnership with, in a bid to rebrand and reinvigorate interest in the teaching profession, which will see 60% of American teachers prepare to retire over the next decade.

“I believe teachers are heroes and have the ability to make an incredible impact in the long-term future of our kids,” Guggenheim said in a statement. “The airing of Teach on CBS is another milestone in Participant’s long-term commitment to raise the visibility of the teaching profession and support efforts to recruit the next generation of great educators.”

“We all have had a teacher who’s shaped us, inspired us, even scared us, and who we can credit with having empowered us to become who we are today,” added Jack Sussman, exec VP of specials, music and live events for CBS Entertainment. “This special celebrates those educators who, despite many hurdles and obstacles, aspire to bring inspiration to their students to succeed.”

Guggenheim’s previous films about education are Waiting For “Superman” (2010) and The First Year (2001).

Teach will premiere on September 6 at 8 p.m. EST/PST.
