Discovery Channel ups Denise Contis

U.S. cable network Discovery Channel has promoted Denise Contis (pictured) from senior VP to exec VP of production and development for the West Coast, effective September 9.

She will replace Nancy Daniels, who was promoted to general manager of sister network TLC, and will report to Discovery and TLC group president Eileen O’Neill. Daniels is replacing general manager Amy Winter, who stepped down for personal reasons but will stay on as executive VP of brand marketing.

Contis most recently served as senior VP of production and development for Discovery, overseeing the production of all the channel’s programming including Skywire Live with Nik Wallenda, Naked and Afraid, Fast N’ Loud and Deadliest Catch.

She joined Discovery Communications in 2008 as West Coast VP of production and development for TLC, where she exec produced Sarah Palin’s Alaska and Say Yes To The Dress, among other shows. Before that she was senior VP of programming for producer A. Smith and Company.
