U.S. net TLC has hired Sandy Varo Jarrell for the newly created role of senior VP of production and development for the West Coast, beginning November 12.

She joins TLC from ABC Family, where she served as head of unscripted programming and development, before which she was VP of reality programming and development at Lifetime.

Varo Jarrell will be tasked with overseeing the strategic direction and storytelling tone of new and ongoing projects developed and produced in the network’s LA office, reporting to TLC general manager Nancy Daniels.

“Sandy has a long and rich history of producing compelling, high-quality programming across a variety of networks and genres,” said Daniels. “Having had the opportunity to work with her before, I know she will be a valuable new member of the TLC team, and continue to bring our audience the strong characters and remarkable stories they tune in for day after day.”

In addition to hiring Varo Jarrell, TLC has promoted Howard Lee to exec VP of development and production for the East Coast, adding oversight of all East Coast development to his responsibilities, which has already included the production of series such as Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, the Breaking Amish franchise, and Long Island Medium.
