French broadcaster ARTE has commissioned a documentary on Citizen Kane director Orson Welles, entitled Orson Welles: Shadows & Light.

The documentary - which is a copro between ARTE and prodco Phares & Balises - will highlight Welles’ career as both an actor and filmmaker. It is directed by Elisabeth Kapnist, and is currently in production.

California-based distributor International Producers Group has taken U.S. and Canadian rights for the project.

Orson Welles: Shadows and Light will be broadcast and released on home video next May, which will coincide with what would have been the director’s 100th birthday.
