Cowell named MIPCOM 2014 Personality of the Year

X-Factor and Got Talent producer Simon Cowell (pictured) is to receive this year’s MIPCOM 2014 Personality of the Year honor.

The talent show judge and TV exec, who heads the music, film, and television production company Syco Entertainment, will attend a gala dinner during the annual market in Cannes on October 14. A day earlier, he will participate in a keynote interview at the Palais des Festivals.

Syco’s credits include the international formats Got Talent and The X-Factor, which Cowell created. The company coproduces Got Talent with FremantleMedia and original versions of the format air in 62 territories. The U.S. version is now in its ninth season and airs in 193 countries.

Singing competition series The X-Factor, which launched in 2004, is produced 49 territories and has launched the pop careers of several acts including boy band One Direction. The group is signed to Syco’s music roster, which also includes Susan Boyle, Il Divo, Little Mix and Cher Lloyd.

Cowell also served as the lead judge on American Idol and on the short-lived U.S. version of X Factor before leaving in 2011 to return to the UK version as a judge.

His latest singing competition format is La Banda, a coproduction with Univision that will search the U.S. and Latin America for the next big Latino boy band. It will begin airing next year. He is also behind the upcoming DJ competition series Ultimate DJ.
