Relativity Sports has acquired the Sundance documentary title In Football We Trust (pictured).
The film, directed by Tony Vainuku and Erika Cohn, spotlights the sport’s role within the Polynesian community in Salt Lake City.
The purchase, for an undisclosed sum, marks the first documentary acquisition for Relativity’s sports agency arm, led by Happy Walters. Independent Television Service coproduced and co-financed the project.
Relativity Sports manages more than 300 NBA, NFL and MLB athletes. It previously produced its own non-fiction content, including star-driven snapshots such as Being: Mariano, and David Ortiz: In The Moment.
The deal is the second documentary acquisition of the day; Showtime earlier snapped up Kim Longinotto’s Dreamcatcher.
