A group of up-and-coming producers have won development deals worth US$20,000 each, through the FYI Development Lab Contest at the Realscreen Summit.
The initiative – a collaboration between the U.S. network and Realscreen – aims to give rising production talent a chance to develop innovative unscripted programming for the lifestyle network. The winners were revealed at an afternoon session at the Washington DC event today (January 28), where FYI’s VP of development and programming James Bolosh discussed with delegates what the broadcaster is looking for in terms of commissions.
Producers who have never previously sold a series for television were encouraged to apply to the Development Lab this past fall by submitting a two- to five-minute-long video pitch and a series paper pitch along with a video pitch of their company ‘s portfolio.
The selected winners are:
- Tom Leach of Media RED;
- Joel McGee of Monkey Time Media;
- Nina Joseph of Boulevard 17 Productions;
- Peter Marks of Peter Marks Productions;
- Jason Cornwell and Damon Collazo of Smartmonkey Productions (who will be sharing the prize money).
The winners were chosen out of a pool of 75 applicants.
